DOOLEY'S WEEK

Taste of Emory was the kick off for Dooley's Week this year! Dooley's Week is so much fun. There are skeletons everywhere on campus, either lounging around on the benches or posted near a tree. Dooley and his guards stroll through campus and occasionally they will pop into a classroom to ask our professors questions about the history of Emory. Usually the professors get stumped and have to acquiesce to the request of Dooley to dismiss class. Dooley has graced at least one of my classes every spring so far, I hope I am lucky enough to have him do it once again.

There are events planned every evening. I am so excited about the N.E.R.D. concert this Thursday and the annual Dooley's Ball that concludes this week!

More to come.....(pictures included!!)

Hey! I'm a prospective student and I'm trying to decide if Emory's the right place for me. Thanks for all the info on your blog...I have two questions:

1. Can you tell me about the diversity on campus? That is a very important factor for me considering I am biracial. The stats put out by the school don't mean very much to me--what has it been like in your experience?

2. The title of your blog is "My Journey Through the Emory Bubble"... Has it really felt like a bubble to you? Since you're from Ga. I'm hoping you'd be able to tell if there is a disconnect between the campus and the outside world?

Well Thanks for commenting on my blog....it was getting a little lonely lol!

But to answer your question about diversity, Emory is a very diverse campus, there are students here from over 106 countries and there are countless numbers of student run cultural organizations. I personally am a big advocate of learning about different cultures and Emory's campus definitely offers several avenues for that. As far as my experience, I have had the experience of participating in different cultural events and have learned so much about different cultures. I also like the fact that amongst my friends there are people from various backgrounds which is common on Emory's campus. You really won't see many cliques that are divided along racial lines.

I would not say that Emory is a bubble in terms of its connection to the outside world. Students have access to everything that Atlanta offers, so we are not necessarily isolated from the city or the community. The reason I call it a bubble is because of the fact that it is a city school without actually being in the heart of Atlanta. It is close enough for me to access the entertainment and nightlife that is in the city but far away enough for me to have a place to focus and devote time to my studies. So in essence Atlanta is not a distraction, but an optional source of entertainment. Trust me, there is so much to do there!
