Senior Year

So it has been a while since I have posted anything, but I have been so busy!

As the title suggests, it is true, I have reached the beginning of the end of my undergraduate career. It's a bitter sweet feeling. I am so excited about moving on to the next step to pursue my career goals, but I am also going to miss Emory and all of the friendships and connections that i have made during my time her.

Ok enough with the sappy stuff, I still have until May to enjoy this place :)!!

This semester has been fun and very busy so far. Applying to graduate programs, and meeting deadlines, having fun, and finishing my major requirements. So far so many exciting things have happened. Homecoming week was so much fun! The parade was amazing even though it rained, that just made it even more exciting. It was a nice event to see all of the spirit and pride that the students and alums have in their campus. There was also a concert at the end of the week with Sean Kingston as the performer.

Wonderful Wednesdays have been exciting as usual. I really missed them over the summer. It really makes Asbury circle very lively and a nice pit stop/study break location between classes. I am also looking forward to the senior events that the senior year experience committee have planned, especially the traditional Seniors at Sweetwater event!

I will definitely be sure to keep you all updated on all of the upcoming events this year. Feel free to post any questions or comments about anything!

SAAW

This week is Sexual Assault Awareness week here at Emory and it has been a great success thus far. Wonderful Wednesdays was wonderful as usual. There were to moon bounces to incorporate the theme of bouncing out sexual assault. There was free food (Brownies, Carrot Cake :), and Ben And Jerry's Ice Cream), and the music was pretty great. We even got to see Emory's Capoiera team execute a demo right in the middle of Asbury Circle.

Why Ben and Jerry's? Well for Emory's annual Senior Class Day there is a wonderful keynote speaker and this year, in honor of that day, Emory has invited Ben and Jerry to come and speak. It is so exciting, I cannot wait until my senior year to see who will be speaking at our Senior Class Day event.

Other than WW there have been other events going on throughout the week to promote awareness about Sexual Assault. For instance there will be a panel this evening to discuss the prevalence of assault with in LGBT community.

In other news....

The end of the semester is approaching. Seniors are geared towards graduation and other students are finalizing their summer plans. There is more to come about year-end activities!

DOOLEY'S WEEK

Taste of Emory was the kick off for Dooley's Week this year! Dooley's Week is so much fun. There are skeletons everywhere on campus, either lounging around on the benches or posted near a tree. Dooley and his guards stroll through campus and occasionally they will pop into a classroom to ask our professors questions about the history of Emory. Usually the professors get stumped and have to acquiesce to the request of Dooley to dismiss class. Dooley has graced at least one of my classes every spring so far, I hope I am lucky enough to have him do it once again.

There are events planned every evening. I am so excited about the N.E.R.D. concert this Thursday and the annual Dooley's Ball that concludes this week!

More to come.....(pictures included!!)

Mardi Gras Weekend

So I have completed another wonderful week at Emory! It was pretty tough one, because I had 2 exams back to back. There was one in Behavioral Neuroscience and another in Disease and Human Behavior. Luckily, I studied and prepared well for them. Now I can look forward to a fun weekend.

It is nearing the end of February and Student Organizations and Groups are celebrating Black History month, with a different event each evening. This week we had a group discussion forum about CNN Black in America and the racial/social climate at Emory. The discussion was moderated by our Provost Earl Lewis. The discussion was great, it was nice to see that students on campus are concerned with social issues on campus and beyond. Having such dialogue is a pivotal in the process of creating future leaders!

This weekend is Mardi Gras. Some people here will be heading to the actual parade and festivities since it is not that far away. I personally will be going with some friends to the Moya Lounge this evening, because they are having a party to celebrate. I look forward to a wonderful weekend!

Valentine's Day

Who says that Valentines day has to be for couples?

I had so much fun with my friends on Valentine's Day. Granted the night was full of surprises lol! First, my cousin gave me a surprise visit. Then we went to Underground Atlanta to hangout for a while. I got a haircut and we ate at one of the restaurants in the Underground Mall. It was really fun. When I got back to campus it was time to make the journey to our destination for the evening.

We caught MARTA which is usually pretty convenient to a place called Studio 281. Its a really nice cafe. We went there for a concert put on by a new all male group from Morehouse called Jaspects! They were amazing. There music style was a fusion of jazz and modern styles. I loved it, they were very live and I was able to meet everyone in the band. My friend, Travis, works for Frequency, a magazine here at Emory and he got a chance to meet and talk with the manager of the group.

After that we headed back to campus. But our night was not over. We decided to go to Steak and Shake which is very close by in the Toco Hills Shopping center and is open 24hrs. While there we ran into some members of Reslife! (I love Countess Hughes....get to know her!). I ordered the most amazing Strawberry Shortcake. It was heavenly! Then we decided to have a mini dance party in front of the restaurant!

It was so much fun! :)

Another Wonderful Wednesday!!

Today was a little busy for me. College rule number one: Try not to over extend yourself!!! :)

It was the first Wonderful Wednesday of the semester and it was being hosted by the athletics department promoting awareness for breast cancer. There are so many Think Pink events coming up this week. The biggest one would have to be the annual Pink Tie Affair which is a wonderful benefit dance held in the lovely Winship Ballroom! I can't wait.

Other than that it was the Spirit of Emory 2009 day. Counselors from Atlanta High Schools came to visit the campus. I had the opportunity to eat lunch with 2 counselors from The Walker School (They were awesome). I also sat a student panel to tell a little more about my Emory Experience. So if you read this and you go to The Walker School, you should definitely check out those counselors and ask them about their experience at Emory!

Finally my day has come to an end....only 2 more days until the weekend! :)

Semester Update

Wow, I realize that I really haven't posted anything on this blog!!! AAAHH! So I felt the need to give an update on the happenings at Emory! Last weekend was so much fun.

On Friday night I hung out with some friends at the Moya Lounge, which is very close to campus. It is so convenient, a restaurant during the day and a club/lounge at night :).

Saturday night was amazing as well. I sing in a gospel choir at Emory called the Voices of Inner Strength, and every year we host an event called the Falling in Love With Jesus Gospel Cafe. The event is so much fun. Several talented performers from within the Emory Student body and from the Atlanta area come and share some of their work. We had MIMES, spoken word artists, soloist, and ensembles. The event was very inspirational. It was nice break from the hustle of a busy week.

On Sunday, a few friends and I went to Lenox mall to do a little shopping.

Now the week has begun and it looks pretty busy, but still has the potential to be fun as well. Tonight Emory PRIDE had a Valentines Day dinner at Everybody's Pizza which is a hot pizza spot in Emory's Village. If you ever come and visit you should definitely check it out! Tomorrow will be the first Wonderful Wednesday of the Semester. I can't wait. I will definitely tell you all about it tomorrow!

That is all for now :)!
